Studiblox Study Methods Course

Outline:

The Studiblox course is now available at the franchises. The course consists of 10 modules and allows for flexible implementation, e.g. it can be presented over three consecutive mornings, over three consecutive Friday afternoons, or over two lessons per week for 5 weeks, etc. Designed by experts from various disciplines, it ensures high-impact learning by teaching effective study methods combined in an integrated model.

Three ingredients in the course are quite unique:

  • Cognitive development exercises build brain ‘muscle’ and create neural pathways.
  • The MUD model (see description below) increases study effectiveness tremendously.
  • Practical methods to write essays and to prepare and present speeches are included.

The course is aimed at Grade 4 – Grade 9 learners.

It is a known fact that study success and failure do not only depend on ability. In fact, it depends largely on the extent to which learners are able to apply proper study methods and techniques.

Many children mistakenly think that studying means revising material by reading through it repeatedly, and that doing this in front of the TV at full volume is acceptable. Needless to say, this does not make for true information retention!

Ready for your child to pack more learning into less time, study smarter, approach tests with confidence and excel in the classroom? Edublox Reading and Learning Clinics offer Studiblox, a course that covers study skills, study methods and study techniques for learners from Grade 4 to 9. Studiblox includes the MUD model, mnemonics, mind mapping, writing summaries, answering exam papers, essay and speech writing, speed reading techniques, and more.

Module 1:
The MUD model is a guide to how things can be learnt; the acronym MUD stands for Memory, Understanding and Doing.

Module 2:
Mnemonics are memory techniques that have been used for thousands of years. In order to facilitate retrieval, new information is tied to the learner's existing knowledge base.

Module 3:
A mind map is a diagram used to represent words, ideas, tasks, or other items linked to and arranged around a central key word or idea. Mind maps are used to generate, visualize, structure, and classify ideas, and as an aid to studying and organizing information, solving problems, making decisions, and writing.

Modules 4-7:
We usually make summaries to study for a test or an exam. The purpose is to condense learning material so that it can be readily assimilated, thereby reducing study time. Writing summaries can be tricky at first because it’s tempting to include too much or too little information. But by following our easy 5-step method, a learner will be able to summarise texts quickly and successfully for any subject.

Modules 8-10:
Creative thinking is not a talent, but a skill that can be learnt. Learn to write winning essays and speeches.

Modules 1-10:
Speed reading is useful when reading for pleasure but essential in learning and studying. When you know how to speed read, you cut down the amount of time you need to study while actually increasing comprehension and understanding.

Modules 1-10:
The above-mentioned learning areas are integrated with brain exercises that sharpen attention and concentration, enhance processing speed, improve memory, and promote logical thinking.
