IT Recipes for Business Success:
Team Viewer and SharePoint

To serve excellent quality of service to our customers Edublox recently acquired and adapted the two technologies specifically for our business needs. The franchisees described the technologies from “amazing”, “brilliant”, to that “it’s scary what technology can do” and “it’s very simple to use”.

The Team Viewer system is used for two functions. Firstly, it allows the technical support staff remote access to any computer that is linked to the Team Viewer system. If franchisees experience a problem with a computer that does not work properly, they do not have to wait for a computer specialist to visit their offices. The expert can immediately access the computer through the safe Team Viewer program, see what the problem is and in most cases resolve it there and then.

Secondly, Team Viewer is used extensively to remotely train and coach franchisees to use the Edublox business systems. This technology is suited perfectly for computer program training. It allows the trainer to use a show-and-tell method, followed by a session with the trainee applying what has been learnt while the trainer can see all the actions on his own computer screen. So, in practice, the Edublox trainer will take over the franchisee’s computer from his own computer and then do the training while conversing on Skype.

SharePoint is a single point of entry for all the Edublox systems and programmes. It provides an online storage space for all the business documents. The storage space is allocated per franchisee and permissions to access specific folders are easily set up per user. For example, a Resource Centre space is accessible to all franchisees. This Resource Centre contains examples of marketing items, Edublox policy documents and business forms that may be required.

A unique SharePoint storage space is also available for each franchisee to store her documents. This online storage facility means the franchisee can do administrative work either from the office or at home. Last, but not least, information is safely stored, so if a computer is stolen or the hard drive goes bananas, the documents are untouched.

SharePoint also makes use of the business documentation easier as it provides one point of access to documents that are updated by more than one user — and therefore ensures that different versions of the same document are not emailed to all and sundry.
