Edublox Values Drive Success

The Edublox Management Team revisited the business values that were originally formulated in 2009 to determine if they are still relevant today. One value was added.

Why do we need values in the Edublox business? Values guide mind-sets and attitudes, and drive the behaviour of Edublox people which leads to success for learners and the business.

The new value is about balance — about being proud and humble.

Often as Edublox people we stand tall and are immensely thrilled with the academic success achieved by our learners due to the classes presented at our clinics. It is easy to understand what it means to be tremendously proud but what does humility mean?

It’s about open-mindedness

Humility is by no means intended to make us feel small, weak or less of a person than others. We are humble when we realise that no matter how skilled we are, no matter how much we have studied, no matter how far we have travelled, we will always be one step behind. It requires confidence and self-assurance mixed with an open mind to learn from the knowledge, experience and opinions of others.

It’s about accepting interdependence and being part of the greater world

When we are humble, we tend to view the world through the eyes of a child: with interest, curiosity and a hunger to learn. Having opened ourselves up in this way, we are more willing to see ourselves as we really are, understand where we fit in to the greater world and do what needs doing to reach our goals. We practise to be humble when this interdependency slows us down so that we can consider whether our decisions are motivated by a need for recognition, or by a deep and respectful consideration for the well-being of our learners, our clients, our colleagues, our families, ...

It’s about a humble manner

A humble manner allows us to carry ourselves in such a way that we do not disrespect the people that we come across. It also helps us to seek out more ways in which to be helpful, considerate and caring individuals which in turn makes for positive interactions with others.

It’s about being positive

Practising humility reminds us to view life (and work) as a joy, not as a drudge, as something to embrace, not something to endure.

Therefore, the new value is...

Edublox people are exceptionally proud of the wonderful achievements of our learners, but remain humble and view the opportunity to develop learners as an honour and privilege.
